Patty Griffin What Have You Done?

Patty Griffin is my favourite song writer. She has written and sung many of my favourite songs and I have seen her live three times. I have been counting down the minutes to her new album release for so long I should have been counting in years rather than minutes but the wait is almost over. I have even pre-ordered it from an American shop because they promised two bonus songs ……………..  and it should finally be in my hands in less that two weeks.

I have to admit though that despite my excitement and anticipation I was horrified when I saw the artwork. What was she thinking? Our Patty is a pretty lady full of life and emotion. This picture makes her look like she has a coat hanger as shoulders and makes out like she is some sort of heartless dodgy Country and Western diva. And what’s with the stern teacher look? Who is this person? – it totally goes against my whole idea of her and her music. Yikes! I’m sure the songs will more than make up for this and in this age of ripping CDs as soon as you buy them I’m sure I won’t need to look at this ghastly picture again, but still ……..  My lovely Patty is a kind hearted, sweet and deep person – not at all what I see in this photo. There is no way that you’d get away with this kind of artwork in Europe!

Anyways the beginning of the year is always an exciting time wondering what music you will end up listening to in the months ahead. What will be the surprises , who will disappoint, who have I never even heard of before that in a few months I will not be able to live without. I’ll tell you in December In the meantime what I do know is that I am looking forward to up and coming releases by Tori Amos, Bjork, The Innocence Mission and Sinead O’Connor – and sure that must only be the tip of the ice berg…………..
