Let’s get this over and done with. Yes, I admit some moisture did escape from my tear ducts. But I challenge anyone to have remained dry-eyed watching my Occasionally Sober Friend on the arms of her father, walk proudly towards her wonderful husband-to-be to the sounds of I’m feeling good sung by the incredible Nina Simone. No wedding march here! My OSF is not an average person and this, thankfully, was not a conventional wedding. Having known her come through some very difficult times it was hearing these words and seeing her look so beautiful and happy that tipped me over the emotional edge;
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life
For me
And I’m feeling good
I will never listen to this song again without reliving that moment – and what a beautiful thought that is.
I managed to dry my eyes by racing around talking to (sometimes at) all sorts of friends and friends’ relations, eating the white chocolate cup-cakes that they had instead of boring wedding cake and shaking my bits to the hits on the dance floor. What a shame it’s the done thing to only get married once – they did such a terrific job it’s a pity they don’t do it every year.
Incidentally Feeling Good is also a very fitting song for the momentous day that’s in it. Here’s another, just in case you’re in the mood.
I’m a bit weepy myself now.
And your OSF looked stunning.
Ooooh good song.
Must mention that to the CPF this evening.
She currently plans to walk down the aisle to Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet! (Presumably to give me one final chance to back out)
catherine – she certainly did!
BA – hehe I’m sure by that stage it’d be too late – not that you’d ever want to of course 🙂
I’m glad she had a good day- and that you did too of course.
you won’t believe me but as i read this post that very song was on the radio, (behind some barrack obama stuff). its lovely. lovely post. lovely song. a seriously freaked out towny.xx
You most certainly did shake your bits! And in what style. You neglected to mention how utterly stunning YOU looked (obviously in deference to the gorgeous bride who looked radiantly beautiful).
And don’t forget, you weren’t alone in shedding a tear or two. Prone as I am to public outbursts of emotion, I can honestly say that I have never been to a more moving wedding. And I’m damn proud to have been there with you.
Good times had by all it seems. I love a wedding! For a moment there I thought she waltzed down the aisle to Muse’s version . . now that would be unconventional!
Ah shite! I thought this was all about Obama. Now I’ve just lost the chance to post my pithiest comment ever.
And now you have made me cry you bugger!
Was a treat to have you there just wished I had actually seen you cry!
xxxx
red – thanks, it was perfect
towny – wow, that really is amazing. It’s a sign! of what I don’t know…
jovica – I do believe you made me blush
baino – hehe, nobody can hold a candle to Nina though!
primal – pop on over to my music blog, perhaps you can use it there 🙂
tallulahbloom – I was hiding my face with a camera I think 🙂
@tallulahbloom – as the blushing bride you’ve got licence to cry WHENEVER your magical wedding is mentioned!
@conortje – well you shouldn’t blush – you looked absolutely AMAZING!
thankgod i was beginning to think you were an imposter
i mean what proper Irish person doesn’t know the difference between gin and sherry? but then this morning i thought well a proper irish person probably doesn’t care about the difference -in fact i think the irish only have one word for alchohol……no wait……that’s wrong……i was thinking of this linguistic research they did…….but it was about eskimos…..not irish… and it was about them having a lot of words for snow……..so i guess that doesn’t really make any sense
well anyway……they really should look into that…send some brave linguists to ireland….maybe on some kind of eu-grant…..
what i wanted to say is all this talk about tears convinced me you’re not an imposter
aren’t there 86 different words for tears in irish?
gertrudely yours xxxxxxxx
Lovely post and I’m happy as pig in shit because of Obamarama too!
And you looked pretty good in that suit too…. 😉
You scrub up quite well, don’t you?
delicious, delightful and de-lovely! what a gorgeous and happy wedding, sugar! what a gloriously happy looking couple! and you ain’t too bad your fine self, sugar! i’m so glad i got to see wedding! 😉 xoxox
and yeah, we had a good day here yesterday!!!!! Obama is in da house!!!!
jovica – I blush all too easily
gertrude – I got mixed up with the gin (as I often do) I was thinking of it along the lines of Mother’s Little Helper and all that..but yes we do actually have 86 words for alcohol but usually we just grunt and point
quickroute – what a great day eh?
travelling – ah go on with ya 🙂
savannah – happy times all round!
no wait now i’m even more confused
i thought you had only ONE word for alchohol and 86 different ones for tears
if you have 86 words for alchohol my whole theory is useless
which is the story of my life and cannot be blamed on you of course
but still
gertrudely yours
and another thing i’m confused about
obama is in da house which should make me happy
at least for the american people since it showed the world they are not all of them COMPLETELY retarded which is nice for them
at least they didn’t choose another bush-alike and he’s got a bit of color but he’s stil in favor of electrocuting and gassing people and that’s kinda scary and he’s against gay marriage which i would understand if he was against all marriage and which SHOULD make me happy since my soon-to-be-ex husband is planning on marrying his orthondontist himself which makes me deeply unhappy not because the orthondontist is an orthodontist which is scary and not because he is a man but still if it was against the law like this obama wants then at least they wouldn’t be able to
so what i mean to say is
well
nothing
i’m just confused
gertrudely yours
gertrude – I need more than 86 words for tears after hearing that! We have to catch up. SOON!
I thought you might appreciate the awesomeness of this …
Beautiful! You’re allowed a little tear in the eye. 🙂
